Head of the Commonwealth Observer Group to Zimbabwe, John Dramani Mahama, has promised an impartial, independent and transparent work as far as the July 30, election is concerned.
He urged all Zimbabweans, particularly women and the youth, to participate in the election while asking all stakeholders to play their part in ensuring a peaceful and credible process. Former President John Mahama, was addressing Journalists on his arrival in Zimbabwe.
Mr Mahama, is leading a 23-member team of eminent people from across the Commonwealth who will be deployed to ten provinces.
Former President Mahama, noted that as Independent Observers, their mandate is to consider factors that affect the credibility of the electoral process and report on whether the vote has been conducted according to national, regional, and international standards to which Zimbabwe has committed itself. He promised that all Political parties will be given fair hearing after the election.
The Commonwealth Observer Group, will issue a Statement of it preliminary findings after the elections.
The final report will then be prepared and submitted to the Secretary-General, of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland, who will share it with the Government of Zimbabwe, leaders of political parties, the Zimbabwe Election Commission, and thereafter to all Commonwealth governments.
The final mission report will form a part of the Commonwealth Secretary- General’s assessment of Zimbabwe’s interest in being re-admitted to the Commonwealth.
