THE PRESIDENT OF GHANA, H. E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, on Thursday February 21, 2019, delivered his third State Of The Nation Address to Ghanaians on the floor of Ghana’s House of Legistlature.
Under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the President is enjoined to address Parliament, at least, once a year to brief Parliament on the true state of the nation and plans ahead to make life better for the citizenry
So, as expected, the President performed his constitutional duty. As was expected, he touched on all sectors of the governance he believes his administration had performed creditably well and to forecast future plans and achievements
Conspicuously missing from the President’s Address is the fall of the Ghanaian Cedi and appropriate measures to deal with it. This development, some say, the President has failed since the currency exchange rate is at the heart of trade
However, the President touched on security and its attendance issues of militas who appear to subvert the constitution as they deem fit
The President said amongst others that, he has asked the ruling party to make overtures to political opponents and address the canker. Failure to do this, the President said, he will initiate Presidential legislation to help deal with it
