Cape Coast: 19 Year Old Barber Jailed For Stealing Laptop



The Cape Coast District Court ‘A’ has sentenced a barber, Kofi Atta to 12 months in prison for stealing an hp laptop valued at GHS700 and a mobile phone valued GHS 500.

Kofi Atta, aged 19, was charged with three 3 counts of unlawful entry, causing damage and stealing.

Prosecuting chief Inspector Christiana Sampong told the court presided over by Rita Amoaniwaa Adusa that the accused and the complainant, Maxwell Adu, a building contractor both live at Basakrom, a suburb of Cape Coast.

She said at about 1500GMT on 20th October this year while the complainant was away, the accused broke into his house through the kitchen, destroyed the living room ceiling, entered the complainant’s room and made away with the said items.



On 21st October, the complainant got information the accused was in possession of the stolen items and informed the police leading to his arrest.

At the hearing on Friday, the accused pleaded guilty to all the counts but pleaded leniency from the court but the prosecutor prayed the court to ignore his plea because he received a two month jail term in 2016 for a similar offence




The trial judge did not take his plea and sentenced him to 6 months for unlawful entry, 6 months for causing damage and 12 months for stealing, all to run concurrently.
