Nyinahinso Assult Case Adjourned

A Kumasi Magistrate Court presided over by his Lordship Peter Oppong Boahen on Friday, November 23, 2018, adjourned a case of assault against one Gariba Mahama, a land guard and seven of his accomplice who are on the run.

According to the facts of the case, Nana Addo Boaman, who is the Chief of Nyinahinso, a community within the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti region, went to inspect a project on his land on May 4, 2017 and while there, the eight accused person appeared and started insulting, Nana Addo Boaman (complainant).

 

 

 

Without mincing a word, the accused persons (land guards) approached him and started beating him mercilessly with shovel, until people around came to his rescue and look him to the hospital unconscious.

When, the complainant (Nana Boaman) recovered, he reported the accused persons to the Kumasi Police Headquarters, where the leader of the land guards (Gariba) and one other were arrested and upon investigation, they and the six others were charged with the offence.

Meanwhile, the Nahinso Land lords Association, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene to avoid any bloodshed in the community.

The petition dated November 6, 2018 ad signed by Messrs. Samuel Andoh, Pastor Rockson Donkor & Isaac Tweneboah said, the cruel activities of land guards in the community, has resulted in chaos and inhuman treatment to the people, who are developing their lands.

As a result of this, it said, the inhabitants are living in fear and since they are law-abiding citizens of Nyinahinso Community, they see the importance of bringing it to the notice of the IGP and the Asantehene than to take the law into their own hands.

The petitioners are, therefore, calling on the authorities concerned to bring the activities of these land guards to order.
