Eighty prison officers were on Thursday presented with medals and badges for their exemplary conduct and long service at a ceremony held at the forecourt of the Sunyani Central Prisons.
The officers were drawn from Sunyani Central Prison, Sunyani Female Prison, Duayaw Nkwanta settlement camp prison and Kenyasi settlement camp prison have served a minimum of 16 years.
Present were the Brong Ahafo Police Regional Commander, DCOP Owusu Boateng, Fire Service Regional Commander, ACFO James Owusu Adjei and Regional Commander of Immigration Service, ACI Yaw Bediako.
Speaking at the ceremony Mr Robin Asamoah Fenning, Deputy Director of Prisons, said the long service and good conduct medal award scheme was instituted in 1996 but became stalled due to lack of funding.
He stressed that the presentation of the awards to the 80 officers was in recognition of their long, dedicated and unflinching service to the Prison service for more than 16years.
The Public Relations Officer, ASP Johan Nartey, noted that an officer needs to offer 16 years loyal service to the nation through the Ghana Prison Service to win an award.
Some of the awardees expressed gratitude for the awards but suggested that more motivating package be presented to awardees.
